Back at the engagement party, Liam and Brittany finally showed up, fashionably late.
I watched Brittany, her eyes all red–rimmed, and Liam, looking annoyed and almost disgusted, and casually sipped my drink.
The golden boy was falling from her graces.
Brittany wasn’t having an easy time lately.
I was just getting comfortable when I
overheard some people talking about the
Walker family’s long–lost son.
“Poor Kevin, his mom was murdered, and he
was forced to leave, too?”
“Really? He looks like he came from high-
society, his mom must have been wealthy?”

I looked up, watched as the man who was the
topic of conversation got up and left.
Clatter!
The sound of a glass shattering.
Ignoring my leg, which was still throbbing, I
raced after him.
It was Kevin!
The man I’d wanted to hold so badly.
He was getting in his car, ready to leave. I
yelled, “Stop! Kevin, stop!”
Everyone was giving me strange looks. I ran
and grabbed his arm.

“You’re back? Why didn’t you come find
me?”
He scoffed, turned around, and looked at me
like I was a stranger. “Lady, I don’t know you.
Let go of me.”
Seeing the disbelief on my face, he reached down and threw my hand off his arm.
Before I could say anything, Brittany finally found an opportunity to make her presence
known.
“Ashley, I know you’re still hung up on Liam, but you don’t have to stoop this low…”
I greedily looked at him.
No, this was Kevin.

The man who had been with me for the past
999 days.
“If you aren’t him, then prove it.”
The rich Walker shrugs. “Okay, what do you
want me to do?”
I take a deep breath, “Let me see your
shoulder. Let me see if you have a scar.”
Kevin helped me with my injuries, his shoulder
was crushed by a building that collapsed.
The man smiled, and pulled his shirt down.
“See? Am I who you are looking for?”
I felt like I was going to faint.

I was covered in cold sweat, and trembled.
Kevin put on his shirt. “Are you from the
Carters? If you want me, just ask me.”
I didn’t hear what he said, my hope came in a
flash, but went away.
I didn’t see the look that Kevin gave me.
