With that, I turned to leave, mainly to avoid any scene she might create.
I had barely stepped out of the room when I heard the sound of the vase shattering on the floor.
This was followed by Anna’s quiet sobs and Ethan’s consoling voice.
The door opened and closed, and Ethan emerged.
He frowned at me. “What did you say to her? You know she’s sick…“.
—
please, take him with you.
“Yes, she’s sick,” I said with a dismissive look, “If you want to worship your little goddess, go ahead. I’m not playing along.”
Ethan said, “Anna’s condition isn’t very stable. I need to spend the night at the hospital.”
I peeked through the window and caught Anna glaring at me furiously. She looked far too animated for someone in an unstable condition. I gave a slight nod. “You don’t have to inform me.”
After all, we had no relationship anymore.
Ethan grabbed my hand. “You understand, right? It’s human life at stake here. She loves me more than anything. With such a high–risk surgery, how could I let her go with regrets…”
Before I could tell him that we had already broke up and that I couldn’t care less if he spent the night with her, Anna started calling for him again.
Ethan rushed back into the room, attending to her every need.
