After Ethan had completely disappeared, I beckoned to Seth.
“Come down now and stop acting. It’s dangerous.”
Seth’s energetic face turned bright red with embarrassment, and he climbed back over the railing with surprising agility.
Charlotte’s eyes widened. “You had it figured out all along?”
I laughed. “Not from the very beginning

Charlotte glared at her brother, puzzled. “Then why did you play along with us?”
I glanced at Seth. “If I hadn’t gone along with it, how would you have ended the scene? Was he really going to jump?”
Charlotte coughed, seemingly caught off guard.
I put my arm around her shoulders reassuringly. “I know you meant well, and I appreciate it. This time, I really, absolutely will not get back together with him.”
She looked uncomfortable. “As long as you know what’s good for you.”
As Charlotte and I were about to leave the rooftop, Seth suddenly said from behind us, “Not all of it was acting.”
Charlotte gave us a quick look before making a hasty exit.
