Chapter 27 Cutting All Ties
Michelle was stunned. “I—”
“Enough!” Caleb cut her off, seething with rage.

Michelle lowered her head, her hair covering half her face. She quietly curved her lips into a smirk.
But before she could say anything else, Caleb shoved her away.
He snapped, “Caroline and I are still legally married. Don’t just go along with whatever Anthony says.”
She stared at him in disbelief, her voice trembling with hurt. “Are you in love with Caroline?”
“Of course not,” Caleb denied. “She’s scheming. No way I could
love her.”
Michelle looked disappointed, though unclear why.
Her emotions were obvious. Caroline wouldn’t let her off easily.
“Men say one thing, mean another, Ms. Adams. If he doesn’t love me, why no divorce?”
Michelle froze. “What do you mean?”
“I gave him the divorce papers ages ago, and he won’t sign,”

Caroline smiled, triumphant. “His act of hating me? Just for show. If he despised me, I’d be gone.”
“But look at you. No status, can’t be seen, never in the picture. Who does he care about? Who can’t he stand? He’s sweet to you out of guilt over Matthew’s death.”
Michelle trembled, nails digging into her palms. Yet, she didn’t even feel the pain.
Caroline knew Michelle was furious. But to keep her innocent, act, Michelle had to swallow her pride.
Michelle’s misery delighted Caroline.
“Why say these things?” Michelle burst into tears, feeling wronged.
Caleb frowned, and Anthony looked even more concerned, his eyes glued to her.
Seeing their reactions, Caroline couldn’t help but laugh.
“Guilt doesn’t last forever. One day, he’ll toss you aside.” She grinned wickedly. “Oh, unless Matthew dies all over again. That might be enough to keep Caleb feeling guilty for the rest of his life.”
“Caroline!” Caleb snapped. “You want me to tear that mouth of yours apart?”

Mentioning Matthew was like hitting a nerve, especially as a
curse.
Michelle grabbed his sleeve, crying, “Caleb, is it true? Do you care for me out of guilt, not love?”
His chest heaved as he answered, “No. Don’t listen to her
nonsense.”
“Then why no divorce?” Michelle pressed on. “Didn’t you say you don’t love her?”
Caleb’s expression darkened. “I’ll handle it. I do plan to get a divorce, just not right now. It’s not the right time.”
Michelle demanded, “Then when is the right time?”
Caroline clicked her tongue and gave her a pitying look. “Seriously? You still don’t get it? He just doesn’t want the divorce.”
Michelle stumbled backward, muttering under her breath, “It’s my fault… It’s all my fault… I shouldn’t have come. This is all on
me…”
Seeing her like that made Caleb’s breath catch.
He rushed toward her, but just as he reached out, she yanked her hand away and bolted without even looking back.

Caleb’s eyes went wide in panic.
“Michelle!” he shouted, rushing after her without a second thought.
A moment later, Anthony followed suit as well.

Caroline crossed her arms, her voice icy as she called out with a smirk, “Mr. Garcia, are you chasing after Ms. Adams or my husband?”
A flicker of awkwardness crossed Anthony’s face.
Before he could say anything, she continued, “You and Caleb hate each other’s guts. So, you’ve got no reason to chase after him. Or… are you worried about Michelle? But didn’t you say you liked me? Ugh, men really are all the same.”
Anthony’s smile faltered. Clearly embarrassed, he retracted his step and gave a half–hearted grin.
“You misunderstood. I was just heading back to the office. I’ve got a meeting to catch,” he explained.
“Uh,” she replied. She didn’t bother exposing his lie.
Late at night, and he’s talking about meetings? Please. What a joke.

Then, Anthony drove off, ignoring the drama at the gate–failed suicide attempt, a knight in shining armor, all of it.
And Caroline couldn’t be bothered either.
Michelle really went full drama—crying, screaming, and now throwing herself into traffic.
Too bad Caleb managed to stop her before a car could.
Caroline had seen this kind of stunt way too many times to be
moved.
So, she just walked past the two of them without even looking.
But Caleb barked, “Stop right there!”
Caroline kept walking, and that only pissed him off more.
“Caroline, are you deaf? I told you to stop!” he shouted.
She clicked her tongue and slowly turned around. “Oh, excuse me. You didn’t say who you were talking to, so I assumed you meant the dog on the street.”
Caleb’s face went darker, nearly black with rage.
She’s completely lost it! What the hell happened to her in just a few days?

“Edwin’s coming with the papers,” Caleb barked. “Sign them and get out. And here’s a heads up. Once you leave Martin Manor, you’re on your own. Live or die? Nobody’s gonna give a damn!”
Caroline’s eyes lit up, realizing the little provocation had worked after all.
“Oh, please,” she scoffed. “Like you ever cared if I lived or died anyway.”
“Unbelievable!” Caleb choked out, furious.
Right as Edwin showed up, Caleb carried Michelle into the car.
Then, he turned around and smacked the divorce agreement against Caroline.
“Happy now? You got what you wanted!”
Caroline thought of every heartbreak to stop herself from laughing.
Out of habit, she flipped through the contract, but the more she read, the more her brows furrowed.
“This isn’t the version I drafted,” she said.
Caleb’s voice was icy. “My grandfather gave you enough as an engagement gift. I’m not asking for it back. As for the asset split?

Don’t dream about it. You’re not getting a cent.”

Caroline laughed, more in disbelief. “All I asked for was two million dollars. Can’t even give me that?”
Caleb replied flatly, “You’re not even worth two hundred dollars.”
Even though Caroline had faced his cruelty before, those words cut deep, stealing her breath.
After all this? Running around for him, swallowing every insult, and working myself to the bone? And now I’m not even worth it? Just… wow.
Caroline still stood there gripping the agreement in silence.
Yet, Caleb had already turned and gotten into the car, ordering Edwin to drive to the nearest hospital.
After Caleb left, she picked up her phone and took several photos of the contract, sending them one by one to her pinned chat on WhatsApp.

By nightfall, after the IV drip, Michelle finally calmed down.
Caleb had stayed by her bedside the entire time. He hadn’t said a word, but just having him there was enough to settle her

nerves. He only left once she’d fallen asleep.
When Caleb stepped out, Edwin walked over.
“Mr. Martin, the legal team reviewed the divorce papers. If Ms. Warren sues, she might win.”
Caleb exhaled deeply. “She won’t.”
Edwin couldn’t tell if he meant she wouldn’t sue or divorce.
Yet, he just kept quiet, not daring to ask.
Then, Caleb looked back at the sleeping Michelle, his mind a total mess.

Caroline stayed up too late the night before, so she slept in till
noon.
After a quick wash, she headed out.
In the VIP hospital room, Caleb looked pleased to see her. His face was cold. “What are you doing here?”
Caroline couldn’t care less.
If not for the divorce, did he think I’d waste time on his deadpan face or that phony Michelle?

“I’ve signed it. Let’s go to the courthouse now,” Caroline said.
“You signed it?” Caleb asked.
Caroline snorted, “Yeah. Just like you wanted. I’m walking away with nothing and will be cutting all ties with you. Happy now?”
Caleb flipped to the last page, and sure enough, her name was there.
For a moment, it felt like something gripped his heart in a tight fist.
Every breath he took came with a dull, squeezing ache.
