The next day, one of Grayson’s friends dragged him out for dinner, hoping to cheer him up a bit.
They ended up running into Madeline at the restaurant.
The friend nudged Grayson and smirked.
“Isn’t that your little golden girl? Want to go say hi?”
Grayson gave a listless shake of his head.
Ever since Savannah left, nothing could stir his interest anymore.
He only agreed to dinner out of courtesy, not because he actually cared.
But just as he lifted his foot to leave, he heard the woman across from Madeline speak up.
“I mean seriously, why can’t you get your act together? You’ve been clinging to Grayson for ages and still haven’t made it into the
Whitaker family.”
Madeline huffed, annoyed. “Mom, you think I don’t want to? Rich men aren’t easy to fool.”
“If I hadn’t pinned all ten disappearances on that fiancée of his, Grayson would’ve dumped me ages ago.”
“But now that Savannah’s finally out of the picture, it’s only a matter of time before I marry him.”
Her mother chuckled proudly. “Damn, girl, that’s some genius move.”
“You kept them constantly fighting, and you played the damsel so well–he fell for it hard.”
“It’s a win–win.”
“By the way, about that fake kidnapping you pulled for the hundred million… Hand it over, would you? Mama wants to splurge a little.”
Madeline laughed and handed over a card.
“I split it with the ‘kidnappers.‘ Only fifty million left now, so don’t go crazy.”
Grayson froze mid–step. The hum of chatter around him faded into nothing.
His mind went blank.
Madeline wasn’t an orphan. She wasn’t innocent. She was no fragile dove in need of rescue.
The entire thing was a setup. A lie–crafted to frame Savannah.
If Savannah had been innocent all along, then everything he did to her…
The humiliation. Forcing her to apologize to her enemy. The pain. What the hell did that make him?
Grayson swayed on his feet, nearly blacking out from the surge of rage and shame.
His friend grabbed him just in time.
“Grayson–are you okay?!”
He brushed away the supporting hand before calling his assistant.
“Dig into everything Madeline’s done since joining the company. I want the full truth. Spare no expense.”
The assistant didn’t dare slack off. He jumped into action the moment the order was given.
Within a week, Madeline’s entire history–all the dirt, every last detail–had been compiled into a thick stack of documents and placed on Grayson Whitaker’s desk.

He’d thought he was delivering justice. But for Savannah, it had all been unjustified suffering. Undeserved hell.
Only now did Grayson finally accept the truth–Savannah was truly gone.
Savannah wasn’t being dramatic, nor playing hard to get.
She left because he broke her, betraying her again and again—for another woman.

Grayson leaned on the desk, veins bulging on his forehead.
His fists clenched tight, knuckles white from the strain.
His assistant stood by, voice barely audible. “Mr. Whitaker… What should we do with Madeline?”
“Post guards to keep her under watch ”
Grayson’s tone was ice–cold, seething with rage.
“If she’s that desperate to marry into the Whitaker family…” His eyes burned. “Then let her see what it’s like to fall from heaven to
hell.”
He snatched the keys from his driver and stepped on the gas–speeding toward the hotel where that damned banquet had taken place.
