The moment the words left Savannah’s mouth, the sharp, agonizing yelp from Snowy was abruptly cut off.
She stumbled out into the courtyard like a madwoman. Blood streaked across the ground–bright, jarring red. Snowy’s little head hung limp from his broken neck, completely still.
Savannah dropped to her knees, her whole body trembling. Her throat closed up–not a single sound could escape–not even a sob.
Her dad was gone. Now Snowy, her only companion for three years, was gone too.
Why was the world so cruel, stealing every last bit of warmth she’d ever known?
She only wanted to save a dog. Was that too much to ask?
Grayson stepped outside just in time to see her collapsed on the ground, her figure curled in on itself, shaking. But the first thing that flashed through his mind wasn’t regret or comfort. It was her words.
“I don’t want your love anymore.”
That line clung to his throat like a thorn, clogging his chest with an unfamiliar tightness.
He yanked her up from the ground and shoved her hard against the wall. “Savannah, can you stop being so childish for once? What kind of sick joke was that supposed to be?”
“You’ve been with me since you were eighteen. If you don’t want my love–who the hell else would you want?!”
Savannah met his aggressive stare, her voice icy as it squeezed past gritted teeth.
“Move.”
She had no energy left to argue over love and heartbreak.
The Grayson she once knew–the one who put her first in everything, who’d held her like she was the world–was long gone.
The moment Madeline showed up, everything had started to unravel.
Back in her room, Savannah curled up into a ball on the floor.
Downstairs, laughter and chatter floated up like knives to the chest.
“Grayson, don’t you think Savannah is being super dramatic? I mean, it was just a dog. Did she really have to make such a scene?”
Madeline’s shrill voice carried straight up the staircase.
Grayson snorted. “Leave her alone. She’s always been spoiled. Guess I let it get too far.”
“The Langleys are bankrupt, and she’s got a heart condition. What else can she do besides stay here?”
“This time, I’ll fix that nasty temper of hers for good.”
Savannah stood up slowly, her expression blank and hollow.
She started digging through every drawer, every box, every dark corner of her bedroom–pulling out all the gifts Grayson had ever

Dozens of perfumes, designer jewelry, dresses–things that once made her feel cherished.
They’d been her only comfort on the darkest nights. Now, every single one of them made her stomach turn.
She stuffed them all into a large black duffel bag and dragged it down the stairs.
Out in the yard, she lit a fire. She stood still, watching the ‘past‘ go up in flames–watching the things she once held dear curl into ash.

That night, he packed up Madeline and moved out. Before leaving, he took every single housekeeper with him.
The next morning, news broke across all of Crestmoor: Grayson Whitaker, CEO of Whitaker Group, had gone public with his new girlfriend.
The photo spread like wildfire. Madeline clung sweetly to his arm, beaming like a Cinderella who’d finally made it. Overnight, she became the envy of every girl in the city.
Almost at the same time, Savannah received a text from Grayson.

One devastating blow after another–she couldn’t take it anymore. The very next day, while packing to leave, Savannah collapsed.
Clutching her chest, she gasped for air. Every breath felt like it might be her last.
Her medication… it had always been kept by the housekeepers–on Grayson’s orders. In a panic, she called him.
Once. Twice. Three times.
Each call went straight to voicemail. By the twenty–eighth attempt, he’d shut off his phone completely.
Just as she was about to give up, her screen lit up–Madeline’s latest post.
