Chapter 5
Knox jumped up from the bed. “What did you fucking say?! Jax was really kidnapped and killed?!“]]
In that moment, Knox’s heart skipped a beat and began to ache. It felt like an electric current flowing through his body, making him tremble.[]
That’s impossible. How could this happen?!“]]
Jax is a good kid. He wouldn’t wander off when playing outside. And Brielle and I did call the police and inform the media, but even reporters couldn’t find any news about it.”
“And the police never got back to me.“]
“Why didn’t anyone tell me about something this serious?“]
“Has Riley bribed you too?”
Even now, his first thought was that I had bribed people. But I had already told him. The whole world had told him. He just refused to believe it. If he’d just looked at the news once, he would have known I wasn’t lying.
His assistant responded: “That’s absurd, sir. Mrs. Winters has no reason to lie about this or to bribe me.“]
“Actually, the front desk did receive a lot of calls, but everyone assumed they were spam calls and ignored them. We even changed the phone number later.“]
Hearing this, Knox growled with suppressed rage: “Are you telling me you can’t distinguish between real calls and scams?!“]
The line went silent, which only infuriated Knox further, with a slam, he hung up the phone. He seemed to have lost his soul, collapsing onto the floor, unable to stand.
He mentally reviewed everything that had happened since Jax went missing. The news had dominated the trending topics. Even footage of me on my knees begging the media not to alert the kidnappers had gone viral online. But at the time, he thought I was just acting convincingly. He’d even called me melodramatic.
Just then, Brielle emerged from her shower, swaying her hips as she approached him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and started kissing him, her hot red lips moving across his body, but he remained completely unresponsive.
“Knox, don’t treat me like I’m fragile just because I’m pregnant.”
Looking up into Brielle’s seductive gaze, he pushed her away again. “Brielle, tell me it was all fake. The media you contacted accused you of spreading false news, right?”
Why are you suddenly asking about this?“]
JUST TELL ME–yes or no?”
The sudden roar made her heart race. She swallowed hard and stammered in reply: “Yes.”
After getting the expected reply, Knox stared into her eyes. “Do you know what happens to people who lie to me?”
But Brielle said nothing, just gazed at him innocently.]]
Despite the fear in her eyes, Knox didn’t expose the lie. Because he wanted to investigate this himself. If Jax was really dead and Brielle had been lying to him all along, he wouldn’t let her get away with it.]
He said nothing more, just stood up from the floor, grabbed his jacket, and prepared to leave.
Brielle suddenly embraced him from behind.[]
“Knox, it’s already dark. What’s so urgent that you need to handle it now?
1 already changed into something special, waiting for you.“]
Without responding, Knox pried her fingers off him one by one and walked away, not looking back
At four in the morning, Knox returned home on his private jet
As he opened the door, the spacious house felt completely lifeless.[]
Before, when Jax and I were home, no matter how late he came back, I always had a meal prepared for him. I never complained and always reminded fax to be considerate of his father, telling him that daddy worked hard to earn money
But now, everything was gone.
Knox entered the bedroom and turned on the light. Seeing the bloodstains on the floor made him suddenly gasp–I had coughed up blood from heartbreak before leaving and hadn’t had time to clean it up!]
Moving further in, he saw that all the luxury items in the closet were gone, with only a few worthless everyday clothes remaining.
Seeing this, Knor’s eyes reddened. He slumped to the floor and lit a cigarette.]
He couldn’t bear to imagine what his child and I had gone through]
I had been desperately pleading for his help, yet he’d chosen to spend over a hundred million on an estate for Brielle rather than fifty million to save his child.]
Not to mention that fifty milion was nothing to him–just a drop in the ocean of his wealth.]
