“Jack, we’re divorced! Even if I have
someone new, it’s my business!”
“You can be with Chloe, but I can’t date?”
Jack didn’t know Professor Wen. After
marrying Jack against my professor’s wishes,
I’d avoided them. Professor Wen was his son,
my senior. He’d only sent a wedding gift when
I married Jack.
Jack paused. “Nancy, I’m innocent. Chloe’s
my sister.”
I retorted, “Me and my brother are innocent.
We’re the same.”
Jack’s breathing grew heavy. I hung up.
It felt good, but I didn’t expect him to take it
seriously.
With my professor’s help, I returned to the
research institute. I focused on my work,
disconnecting from the outside world. My
phone was off. Professor Wen helped me get
back on track.
But Jack, having lost contact with me, had
gone crazy. He found out about Professor
<
Wen and waited outside the institute.
One night, after working for over ten hours,
Professor Wen forced me to leave. Even
outside, my mind was on my research. “Nancy, you need to rest,” he said. “You
can’t work this hard without food or sleep.”
I nodded absentmindedly.
Suddenly, we saw Jack, his eyes blazing. He
punched Professor Wen, who fell, his lip
bleeding.
He shielded me, worried. “Nancy, don’t be
afraid, I’ll protect you!”
I pushed him away and rushed to Professor
Wen.
“Professor, are you okay?”
“Just a scratch!”
Seeing his bleeding mouth, I turned to Jack,
furious.
“Jack, are you crazy? Why did you hit him?” He looked incredulous, hurt. “Nancy, I was
<
protecting you.”
I laughed. Protecting me now? What about
when Chloe bullied me? He helped her hurt
me!
“The best protection is for you to stay away
from me!”
“Jack, we’re divorced! Why are you
interfering in my life?”
He paled, pleading. “Nancy, it’s temporary. We’ll remarry!”
I helped Professor Wen up, looking at Jack
emotionlessly.
“That’s wishful thinking.”
“”
“Jack, why should I cooperate with you
again?”
“I loved you and sacrificed for you. I don’t
anymore. You’re worthless to me!”
I helped Professor Wẹn to the hospital. His
mouth was injured, but he still joked,
“I took another hit for you. Why am I always
く
injured when I’m with you?”
I laughed, playfully scolding him.
“It’s your honor.”
I took him home. Jack appeared again. He’d
clearly calmed down and knew Professor
Wen.
“He’s your professor’s son, your senior.”
“Nancy, you don’t need to use him.”
I laughed. “Who said I was using him? Who
says I can’t date my senior?”
“Jack, you can be with Chloe, why can’t I
date my senior?”
He looked devastated, pleading, “Nancy, why
do you torment me?”
“If you don’t like Chloe, I’ll stop seeing her.
We’ll remarry and never separate!”
I scoffed. Before I could speak, Chloe
appeared. She stared at Jack, her eyes wild.
“Jack, what did you say?”
“You’re leaving me for her?”
く
I frowned, sensing something was wrong.
Jack stammered,
“Chloe, let’s talk later. I need to talk to
Nancy!”
Chloe, usually obedient, resisted, yelling
hysterically.
“No!”
“Jack, I heard you!”
“You can’t leave me! I won’t let you!”
Jack shouted back, “Chloe, you’re grown! I
have my own life! Why do you cling to me?”
“We’ve divorced eight times because of you!
Leave me alone!”
“My life is yours; I’ll marry you instead!”
Chloe shouted, shocking Jack
He stared at her, horrified. “Chloe, you’re
crazy!”
Chloe insisted, “We’re childhood sweethearts!
We should be together!”
