Jack shook his head, his face twisting in
く
disgust.
“You know I only see you as a sister! I can’t
marry you or be with you!”
“Leave my house!”
Chloe couldn’t accept this. They argued. I
stood by, sneering.
Then, Chloe, eyes bloodshot, became erratic.
“No! I won’t let you leave me!”
She pulled out a knife, repeatedly stabbing
Jack. Blood splattered on her face.
She laughed maniacally. “Jack, you’re mine!”
Before I could react, hands covered my eyes.
“Don’t look. I called the police. Let’s go.”
Professor Wen led me away. I didn’t know
what happened later.
Six months later, I presented my research at a
conference. I saw Jack in the audience.
I was surprised, blurting out, “You’re not
dead?”
I apologized quickly. “I’m sorry.”
He chuckled bitterly. “I know. It was my fate. He’d spoiled Chloe, creating a monster.
I nodded, not wanting to talk. He seemed to
understand.
“I heard you and your senior married?”
33
I showed my ring. “Yes, recently. I’m happy.”
His face turned pale. He spoke of sending
Chloe to prison, of our past, and his regrets.
There’s no going back.
