Chapter 6
I shook my head.
“I don’t know if she’s incredibly foolish or being manipulated by someone.”
Ethan didn’t ask further questions and offered to drive me home.
Just as I got out of the car, Luna Margaret called again.
“Luna, could you please come to the hospital? I really don’t know who else to turn to.”
Alexander’s furious roars echoed through the phone.
“I said I don’t agree to amputation! You’re all listening to that useless healer Luna. My legs can still be treated!”
“Stella said this is all a normal reaction. Once the bone and flesh regenerate, I’ll be able to walk again.”
“I must have just been too eager today and fell down the stairs, damaging my legs!”
Luna Margaret’s voice was tearful with urgency.
“Alexander, the hospital doctors also say you need immediate amputation. If we delay any longer, we might not be able to save your life.”
“Please listen to me and have the surgery!”
The sound of breaking glass followed, then Luna Margaret pleaded with me.
“Luna, the doctors say they’re not completely confident about this surgery. I hope you can come help assess the situation. I’m waiting for you at the hospital.”
Ethan, who hadn’t left yet, accompanied me to the hospital.
Sitting in the car, Ethan hesitated before asking.
“Are you going to save him?”
I rolled down the window, letting the cold wind hit my face.
“No.”
“I just want to enjoy watching him suffer.”
Ethan’s grip on the steering wheel tightened.
“Miss Aurelia, do you hate him?”
“As far as I know, you two don’t have any grudges.”
I forced a smile.
“He owes me a life.”
I closed my eyes to rest.
Seeing I didn’t want to discuss it further, Ethan stopped asking questions.
At the hospital, all the doctors had been kicked out of the room by Alexander.
Luna Margaret stood guard outside the room with red, swollen eyes.
“Miss Aurelia, can you help me persuade Alexander to agree to the surgery?”
“It’s not that I don’t want to help, but Alexander least wants to see me right now. Whatever I say, he’ll think I’m trying to harm him.”
I sighed deeply.
“Doesn’t he trust Stella completely? Why not have Stella persuade him?”
At the mention of Stella’s name, Luna Margaret
aret was both angry and hateful.
But with no other options, she called her assistant to bring Stella to the hospital.
Stella knelt beside Alexander, crying pitifully.
“Alexander, are you in pain? I really don’t know what went wrong, but my medicine was definitely correct.”
Alexander tried to comfort her but winced in pain from the movement.
After the sharp pain subsided, he spoke.
“Stella, tell me my legs don’t need amputation. This is just like you said before–the bone and flesh are regenerating, right?”
Stella looked at Alexander’s blood–soaked legs, then remembered Luna Margaret and the doctors‘ warnings.
She bit her lip, her voice trembling.
“Alexander, maybe you should listen to the doctors. Your legs might really be beyond saving…”
