The President Chapter 58

Chapter 58

Celestina stood beside Kael at the grand dining hall, her arm lightly resting on his. She wore a sleek ivory gown with intricate beading along the neckline, her hair cascading in soft waves over her shoulders. Kael, in a perfectly tailored black tuxedo, looked every bit the proud fiancé, his hand resting at the small of her back.

President Alvada rose from his chair, his presence commanding as he raised his glass. The room quieted almost instantly, all eyes turning to him.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” he began, his voice steady and warm, “tonight, we come together to celebrate a remarkable moment—a second chance, not just at love, but at growth, understanding, and forgiveness.”

His gaze shifted to Celestina, his expression softening. “My daughter has faced challenges that would break most, yet here she stands, stronger than ever. And Kael…” He turned to Kael, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips. “You’ve proven yourself worthy of that strength.”

Kael inclined his head respectfully. “Thank you, Mr. President.”

President Alvada raised his glass higher. “To Celestina and Kael—may this new chapter be filled with love, trust, and happiness.”

“To Celestina and Kael!” the room echoed, glasses clinking together in unison.

As the first course—a delicate bisque served with freshly baked bread—was brought out, the atmosphere shifted to a more casual, lively energy. Guests engaged in animated conversations, their laughter punctuating the air.

Kael leaned toward Celestina, his voice low. “You’re handling all this attention far better than I expected.”

She arched an eyebrow, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. “And what exactly did you expect?”

He chuckled. “Nerves, maybe. A bit of fidgeting. Definitely not this level of poise.”

“Well,” she said, taking a sip of her wine, “I’ve had a bit of practice lately.”

Kael’s smile softened. “You look beautiful tonight, Celestina.”

Her cheeks flushed faintly, but she maintained her composure. “Thank you. You don’t look too bad yourself.”

As the second course—a tender filet mignon paired with roasted vegetables—was served, Celestina found herself fielding questions from curious guests.

“I must admit,” said Lady Veridan, Kael’s mother, as she leaned slightly forward, her pearl earrings catching the light, “I was surprised to hear about your engagement. A second chance isn’t something we see often in these circles.”

Celestina smiled politely. “Sometimes, the right timing makes all the difference.”

Kael’s father, seated beside her, chuckled. “I’ll say. Kael’s been talking about nothing but you for months. It’s good to see he finally managed to convince you.”

“Convincing wasn’t easy,” Celestina admitted, glancing at Kael with a teasing smile. “But he’s persistent.”

“Stubborn, you mean,” Kael said, grinning.

The group laughed, and for the first time in a long time, Celestina felt at ease.
