The Pursuit of Love
Chapter 1
My boyfriend, Dylan, killed himself by jumping
into the ocean, right after the wedding of
Heather, the high school queen bee who had
bullied him relentlessly.
While sorting through his belongings, I found
a hidden folder on his laptop.
It was filled with her photos and countless
writings expressing his love and longing for
her.
He even wrote a song for her: “Every day
without you, I toss and turn, unable to sleep.”
Then, I was reborn. It was the day Heather
orchestrated a class–wide campaign to
isolate him.
I looked away, refusing to intervene.
He stopped me, his voice trembling with
desperation: “Why… why aren’t you helping
me this time?”

The gifted singer–songwriter, Elijah, released
his new song, “Heather.”
The song’s dedication was crystal clear. In
interviews, everyone asked if it was inspired
by his beloved.
He smirked, his cool gaze fixed on the
camera: “Yes, wishing her happiness.”
A gossipy reporter slyly asked, “Does ‘wishing
her happiness‘ mean you’re going to marry
Heather Zhou?”
That’s me, Heather Zhou.
From high school to now.
From a cramped basement apartment to a
luxurious mansion.
We’d been together for over a decade.
It wasn’t a secret in our circles.
In the video, Elijah was only slightly taken
aback when he heard my name.
He didn’t answer the reporter’s question.

He simply said the interview was over and left
under the escort of his staff.
Watching this inconclusive interview, I
remembered an old saying.
If you’ve been with someone for many years
without getting married, chances are you
won’t.
And it turned out, Elijah and I really couldn’t
get married.
Because he jumped into the ocean and died.
On the large rocks by the sea, lay an old cell
phone.
The screen was stuck on his and Heather’s
last conversation.
It was an unsent message: “I love you.”
