After that rainy night, Elijah was sick and
didn’t come to school.
Thinking about Jason’s words, I looked up
many articles on parallel universes.
None of them were proven, though.
Until I went to the library to borrow books and saw a borrowing record for Hawking’s A Brief History of Time.
The time showed I borrowed it not long ago. And behind the book, was Jason’s name.
But this was my first time reading this book.
In a flash,
a clear and bold idea emerged in my mind.
Shocked for a long while, I silently returned
the book.
And continued to immerse myself in my
studies.
Unexpectedly, Heather seemed to have
changed.
She even urged the class to visit Elijah and
cared for him in the hospital.
When I was tired from studying, I occasionally
heard her mumbling.
“Don’t die.
“I’ll make it up to you.
“Forgive me.”
And things like that.
I didn’t understand what happened between
them, but wasn’t this good?
Elijah’s unrealized dreams in his past life
were coming true.
His goddess was within reach.
After his return, he stopped contacting me.
He remained solitary, silent, and
inconspicuous in class.
But a shocking piece of news came at the
beginning of senior year.
Perhaps he’d had an epiphany; after
<
participating in a singing competition during
the summer vacation, Elijah became famous.
His popular songs from his past life were
released earlier this time.
He became a school celebrity.
In an interview, he said: “I want to reach the
top, walk side–by–side with the person I love,
and support her dreams.”
And he and Heather grew closer, often
skipping class to accompany him to
competitions and variety shows.
They came to school less often, but it didn’t
prevent their story from becoming a campus
legend.
Simply put, they were a perfect match, a
deskmate romance, destined to be together.
I ignored it.
Occasionally, I received messages from
unknown numbers.
Just a few lyrics or sentences out of context.

But I felt a growing unease.
I sensed he was planning something big.
Before I knew what he was up to,
