I’d only just left that alley when I ran into
someone else in another one.
He had some cuts on his face, sitting
slumped against the wall, his clothes and
pants stained with blood.
He’d clearly been in a fight.
This road must be cursed. I’ll take a different
route next time.

I bent down and picked it up.
