Xander POV
My body doesn’t move, I reach her and I’m frozen on the spot, my eyes taking in everything that is happening around her. She’s standing and her magic is outside her body fully, doing what it wants.
Garrick and Killian come to a stop next to me, and even they are speechless and unable to move. I came to protect her, but right now she donar trend it.
“You mentioned her magic being out of control,” Garrick whispers. “I didn’t think you meant like this.”
“This is worse,” I growl.
“You need to keep her hidden,” Garrick argues, and I know that, I know I have to hide her to protect her. But hiding her when her magic is free and won’t be controlled is not going to be easy.
The moment everyone around her is dead, it stops. Everything stills and goes quiet. She falls to her knees.
“Xander,” Killian whispers. “The magic is gone, it’s silenced.”
1 pause at his words and realise that he’s right, it is.
“Have you considered something else?” he says quietly.
I’m not sure why we’re whispering, maybe because everything is so still, it feels wrong to speak loudly?
“Considered what?” I ask.
“The magic, it’s been just below her skin, right? Until this morning, when it began leaking, what if it reacts to threats?”
Threats? I turn and look at Killian.
“I mean it, what if the magic can sense threats? What if she hadn’t been able to control it today because there was a threat coming, and it was protecting her and Eryx?”
I hadn’t thought of that, all I thought of was if anyone sees or feels it, it could lead to her death. I had to tell Killian and Garrick, though, as my two main men, I knew I could trust them.
“If you ask me, I agree with Killian. It’s weird how you described it, how it was getting worse, and the moment it’s taken down the threat, it retreats into
silence. Maybe it’s just for now? When she learns to use the magic, maybe it won’t attack alone?”
Nodding, I walk over to her, as I get closer she tenses, then seems to sense me as she relaxes and her head falls forward.
“I… I didn’t mean to hurt them,” she whispers.
Kneeling in front of her, I grasp her face in my hands so she’s looking at me. “Even if you had, I wouldn’t be angry. How do you feel?”
Her body shakes as she sobs. “I don’t know, I tried to get my wolf, I tried to shift, but the magic silenced it.”
Smiling softly, I nod. “Because your wolf wouldn’t have been able to fight them all and protect you as well. Your magic was needed.” Sighing I look at her. “Even the guardians didn’t move, it was like they knew you were going to protect yourself.”
My thumb strokes her jaw slowly.
“The magic is silent,” she whispers.
“We have a theory of that. Think back, to before today, how it was humming beneath your skin, how did it feel? Was there anything there?”

She looks up at me. “Just, it felt like. She stops and chews her lip like she’s trying to figure it out africken Arcti

“What if it was warning you?” I ask.
“Warning me?” She stares in confusion.
“Yes, what if it could sense a threat coming and it was warning you. Next time that feeling happens, tell me. Maybe if we plan it will calm down, maka we know a threat is coming and are prepared it won’t get out of control?”
She stares at me like she doesn’t truly believe it, but she nods anyway.
“Okay, that’s good. Now, can you focus on the magic, try to feel it, to use it?”
“Xander, I can’t control it!”
Sighing, I nod. “You believe you can’t and your fear is what’s causing the issues. Look at me.” I grip her chin, forcing her to see me. “I believe in you,) believe you can do this, focus on your magic, try to get it to one part of your body, just one.”
Kissing her lips softly, I wait.
Closing her eyes, she focuses, I stay silent, giving her the space that she needs. Her hand turns over, and I watch as it slowly becomes brighter. She’s doing it. I want to tell her but that might make her lose control. I watch her hand and her face and she worries her bottom lip like she’s struggling.
“Don’t stop what you’re doing, don’t doubt yourself, it’s working, I can see it in your hand, only your hand.”
She does, and I watch the light of magic swirl in her palm, getting brighter and bigger.
“Good, now try to pull it back in, try to settle it,” I say.
She nods slowly, and I watch her face, her focus. Slowly, it begins to crack.
“I can’t, I can’t do it.”
Sighing, I look at her. “You can, if you can focus and pull it to your hand, you can pull it back into your body again, keep trying. Being able to pull it back in is essential, so no one sees it outside your body.
She trembles, her teeth biting down harder as she begins to cry. “It’s not… It’s not working,” she cries.
“It will, stop doubting yourself just-”
My words are cut off as I’m dragged to the side, at the same moment fire flares from her hand and shoots forward, hitting a tree.
“Xander!” She screams and opens her eyes, looking around. I glance up to see Garrick there. He pulled me away.
“I saw it coming and grabbed you,” he explains.
“I nearly killed you,” she cries, her body shaking, the magic has gone now. “I nearly killed you, Xander!”
She sobs into her hands.
“Leave us,” I say.
Garrick nods and leaves, and I move to kneel in front of her. She’s a mess now, sobbing into her hands and shaking.
“I’m fine, I didn’t get hurt, calm down, please,” I say while grabbing her hands to calm her down. She continues to sob, and I pull her face up. Her wolf is right there, I can see it in her eyes.
“I promise you, Serafine, I’m fine.” Grasping her hand, I place it over my heart. “See, I’m here, and I’m fine.”
Chapter 111
She gasps almost in relief then plunges forward and kisses me. My hands hold her against me as fier kiss becomes mare forceful,
“Knot us,” she whispers as her hands clutch at me.
“Serafine,” I whisper.
“Please, Xander,” she cries, and I can feel the panic radiating off her. Her wolf is going crazy reassure her and her wolf I’m fine, but right now isn’t an ideal time.
at how close that was, and I know knotting her will help
