Chapter 115
Chapter 115
Serafine POV
Xander is asking me a lot of questions which I can understand. I’m not sure where to start though. Okay, I know exactly where to start.
“I’m Veyrathi, which is a Threadborn, but I’m linked, bonded to all other threadborns not just people. I have a Silvermane Hound when I shift, and the mate of a Veyrathi becomes a threadborn themselves.”
His eyes widen. “Me?”
“Yes, what the mate gets isn’t determined, it’s different and varies. You, got the Silvermane Hound, what else is capable of happening I’m not sure. I’ve not been given a simple straight forward answer to that in the journal.”
He stares at me. “The Journal?”
“You saw it reacted differently to me. It did, because I’m Veyrathi and the book responds. When I open the book ink appears suddenly on the page and I’m able to read it. Along with that, if I write in it,‘the ink disappears and then book replies.”
“You knew this, all the time and didn’t say before you ran?”
“You hated me, you kept calling me a liar and when I asked about helping you mocked me for being incapable.”
His head drops slightly. “I’m sorry, I’m learning to be different. Before hand, yes I was harsh, I struggled to trust and I apologise. I’m not saying I’m fixed and it’s sorted. It’s a working progress.”
“Well, that’s why I didn’t tell you, how could I know you were trusted if you never trusted me?”
“So the event, did you get an answer?”
“Yes, Veyrathi and threadborn mate during it with their mates. It’s not about going against tradition but mating during rituals intensifies the bonds and makes it stronger.”
He nods, and I slowly explain everything to him, I explain about where I was when I ran, about how I had help, how I wasn’t alone. He seems reassured at that, knowing I wasn’t facing all this by myself.
Shifting, I open the other book to the page. “I need to find this place. Nyvarras Hollow, it’s meant to be the place of Veyrathi, it’s something I think can help me.”
“With your magic?”
I shrug to him. “I don’t know, I just know I need to go there, with Eryx.”
“That place isn’t easy to get to,” he says.
“You know where it is?” I stare at him.
“You have to go past rogue territory. Serafine, even the rogues don’t go near it, people believe it’s the place of the damned, the reason werewolves fell the reason we became weak.”
My eyes widen at his words. Maybe it’s the place with answers, the one place that gives us back our power?”
Sighing he leans back. “Werewolves were never like this, stories told of how we could defeat most, except dragons. Now, we can’t even defeat fac nothing. We’re slowly turning human and nothing can stop it.”
“We can,” I whisper. “I think that’s the point in all this to give us back power, to bring back the originals.”
“What originals?”

Chapter 115
“Veyrathi, threadborn.”
He chukles and looks at me. “You really believe that, don’t you?” He isn’t saying it like he doubts me, more like he doesn’t see how it’s possible.
“We’ve got to try, because if there’s one more war, one more battle against the others and the werewolves are gone. We can’t survive anymore
“You amaze me, the weight you carry, how easy you do it, how simple you make it look.”
I wish it was easy or simple. “It’s hard Xander, and I need to tell you something else.”
“Go ahead,” he motions at me to talk.
“The book mentions my mate, how they are the one to stop the magic taking full control. It says my mate can help me, they can connect with me through the bond, with my magic and help control it.”
His eyes widen. “I’m not sure I can do that.”
“You need to because this says you can and you need to. All I want is for you to help me if needed, it says my mate is chosen because they can do it so it’s proof you can.”
He looks hesitant.
“You keep telling me I can do it when I say I can’t, well you can Xander, if I can you can.”
He nods and settles. “Okay, so what do we do first?”
“Nyvarras Hollow, that’s the first thing that we do,” I say.
A knock has Xander call out, and the door opens. Garrick stands there and looks directly at Xander.
“We have someone at a border trying to pass through. They have a Silvermane Hound with them and claim they know Serafine.”
Both of them look at me now, and I focus, slowly feeling it. The thread, the bond.
“It’s the Silvermane Hound that Gideon shot,” I stand up quickly and lift Eryx.
“And the person with them?” Xander asks.
“Helena? Maybe the healer? I don’t know but those are the only two people I knew there. They are trusted, they helped me uncover everything, remember?” I look at Xander.
I told him about Helena and the healer, maybe this will help, they could have more answers.
minutes later I see them. The
“We will come, Serafine can confirm it’s them.” Xander stands and I follow him out of the pack and behind Garrick, Silvermane Hound is alive, I had wondered what happened after I left. Beside it, is Helena, she’s exhausted, her clothing torn to pieces.
“Helena,” I say and she gives me a small smile. “What happened?”
“The city was attacked, most died, some fled to other cities, I had to come here though, I didn’t know where else to go and I knew you needed answers.
“Let her in,” Xander says and the men move out of the way.
She walks forward and smiles.
“It’s good to see you and Eryx are safe now.”
I wish it was that simple.
