Leaving
Xander POV
I’ve not found anything, no one has. It’s like there’s nothing here at all that explains what’s happening.
“You’re traveling tonight,” Garrick says and I nod to him. “Have you made Serafine aware that she’s going to see her father?”
“No, because I want the truth, and if I tell her she has time to plan.” Her not knowing where we are going is all I need right now. It’s getting late and we should be leaving soon. I’m hoping that seeing her father will bring some truth.
Is he with a woman, is that woman pretending to be Serafine? A lot of truths and lies will be uncovered tomorrow when we reach the pack.
“Someone ensure Serafine is ready to leave soon, don’t make her aware of where we’re going,” One of the maids nods and walks out and Killan sits down.
“There’s nothing, we’ve searched but we can’t find answers. We’re going to keep looking but there’s something that you need to consider.”
The way he says that means I won’t like this idea. I ignore the urge to tell him I don’t want to hear it, and nod.
“This isn’t about the Calling, this isn’t about you, or your wolf.”
“Then what is it about? The pack, the goddess, something else?”
“Serafine, that’s the only change in your life right now. Everything else was consistent. The only change is that Serafine is here.”
His words settle and I consider it. Serafine is new here, it’s the first Calling since she arrived. Is she impacting it? “You think she’s using some form of magic to attack the pack, to attack us during rituals?”
“Those weren’t my words.” Killan chuckles.
“No but that’s what you were trying to say.” I’m not a fool.
“No, I was pointing out she’s the only difference. That does not meant she’s sat there doing black magic on you, while holding a voodoo doll that represents you so she can stick pins in it. Come on, be realistic, rituals like the Calling are one of the most sacred things. They are impossible to alter.”
“So you’re saying she’s not blame?”
“I’m not saying she is, or that she isn’t. What I am saying is she’s the only difference. You refuse to let her help, fine, but consider the fact of her helping, could give you the answers that you need.”
“I’ll consider it,” I say. “I’m still unsure of how much I can trust her though, we’ve still not found out how her father knows the truth.”
I hear footsteps and see her walking towards us. Killan and Garrick stand and walk away from me.
“I was told to come now, we’re leaving?” She looks at me in confusion.
“We’re traveling to another pack. We will be gone for a day or two, are you ready?”
She hesitates for a moment before nodding. She’s cradling the books to her chest like they are her lifeline.
“Okay, let’s go. Killan, watch everything.” I look toward him, and he nods. Right now we’re on high alert because of Giddeon, and I would rather we weren’t weak.
“Already sorted, don’t worry, you focus on getting answers.”
He doesn’t need to specify what answers, I know what he means. He means answers about Serafine, her past, her father and all that mess. He also means answers about what happened during the Calling.
I guide her outside and into the car, sitting quietly I stare outside and prepare myself for what may happen.
Either I’m going to be proven right, and find out Serafine is acting and everything was a lie, in which case, I need to make her aware she’s done and I won’t accept her lies. Or, I’m wrong, and everything she said is the truth, and she never told her father. Then, I need to apologise, and she forgives me.
“We’re going to the moonlure pack, which you’re very accustomed with.” I look at her.
She turns and faces me, sighing loudly. She doesn’t argue it.
“You realise this is your final chance to be hon Successfully unlocked! you instantly, then all your lies are exposed to
me.” I wait and she looks out of the window.
“Xander, believe what you want. I don’t care anymore. No one will know me.”
I watch her for a moment. “I’m giving you a chance to fix things, to be honest, before we get there. Consider taking it. You be honest now, and it’s a new start, no judgments, no punishments.”

Turning slowly, she looks at me. “Don’t apologise, don’t expect me to forgive you, and certainly done expect me to give in to you. When we get there, and you’re faced with the truth. I hope that guilt eats at you until there’s nothing left.”
“We shall see,” I say and she nods.
“We will, the Calling may have had me give in to your Xander, but I will never do that again. You are never coming near me again. Mate or not, I’m not letting you touch me.”
My wolf claws at me, and I simply watch her. She means that. I want to apologise but I could be apologising and she is playing a game. Then she wins.
Instead, I turn and look away from her. “You should sleep; the trip will take most of the night.” I say nothing else, just close my eyes and focus on sleeping myself. It’s hard, though. My wolf is clawing at me, wanting to clairn her, to have her close to us to touch her.
We can’t, at least this way, her refusal gives us space, then if she’s lying, I won’t feel as bad when I do punish her.
