Chapter 92
Serafine POV
Pain explodes through my body and drags me from unconsciousness. I’m still on the mat where they had left me. At first, I thought Gideon would find out their plan and stop it
Only he didn’t, apparently; he told them to use me and to let others know as well.
I’m sure it’s been over twenty–four hours now, my body turns, but the pain doesn’t matter. What does matter is that I can’t get washed, I can’t clean myself, and now, all I can smell is each of the betas and gammas who have come into the room to use me.
Shooting me again with those damn darts was pointless. I was asleep and too exhausted to move, but it’s become a frequent thing. When I felt the pain and knew they had hurt Eryx. Something inside of me snapped, and I shifted.
I managed to bite someone, but just as quickly, I was shot again. Now, they seem to be timing it, so I don’t get a chance to feel my wolf.
“Serafine.”
Gideon’s voice has me tensing. I look up slowly to see him standing by the door.
“How are you feeling?”
Is that a fucking joke? How am I feeling? He knows what is happening to me, and he asked me that?
Not fighting didn’t stop him from hurting Eryx; he lied. I should have known he would.
Spitting at his feet, I growl. “I hope you’re ready for me to tear off every limb you have.” My hands yank against the restraints, but I don’t have the strength without my wolf.
“Clearly you’re still fighting and aren’t broken, so it continues.”
What?
“Why?” I ask.
“I had my plans, which I thought were good, but you know what?” He moves to crouch down in front of the mat so he can look into my eyes. “Xander’s weakness is you. So, if we break you, use you, and dump you like you were nothing more than a piece of meat for the betas and omegas to use…”
He stops as if he’s deep in thought but the smile says he’s seeing something in his mind.
“Xander will lose control and react. He will rush into this pack without a plan, running on anger and hurt, and can kill him.”
I don’t understand. “Why do you want Xander dead so much?”
He’s already killed Xander’s first mate, so why does he want to kill Xander as well? Is there more to this story than I know?
“Not just Xander,” he says. “Anyone who is like him. Anyone who follows traditions and rituals and thinks they are building packs like his is the new way.”
“What?” I don’t get it. “Xander’s pack is amazing, it’s clean, it’s safe.” What is wrong with the way Xander does things?
“Werewolves have always survived off trades, off making deals, and connecting with other packs. He rarely does. He grows everything he needs. He never needs to outsource anything. People see his pack as something powerful and copy him. Which means…” He stops and gestures around him.
“It means packs like ours, who negotiate and do deals with other packs, are left to struggle. Because more and more packs are closing off and building a sustainable life without a thought for us.”
He’s jealous, that’s what this is, he’s jealous that they have better packs than him.

Maybe try doing what they do? What do you have to offer packs? Other than the Omegas to use, what can you offer anyoñar, fie can’t be de anything, he doesn’t make anything.
This pack relies on others and on what their packs create. This pack isn’t small by any means but it’s also not one of the top ones. Sure it’s strong ima comes among the strongest but it’s a fucking dump.
“We survived because we connected to other packs and used them; that should never change.”
“We survived because we followed rituals, events, and the rules set by the Moon Goddess, yet you’ve stopped those,” I say.
“Only for those who can be removed.”
How is that any different? “How about drugging people so they don’t feel their wolves, the bonds, heat and such?” I ask.
“If things weren’t meant to be done, they wouldn’t be possible. I’m not about to give the Omegas power by letting them feel their heat, by letting them mate with men who they shouldn’t have.”
“If they have a mate, it’s meant to be. You can’t stop that!”
“You’re wrong there, because I can stop it.”
“So your plan is to destroy any alpha with a pack like Xanders?” I ask.
“I want our world back to how it was, everyone on even playing fields. All these small cities they build, where their pack members sleep in their own homes. Where’s the tradition? Most stay in the pack house, others stay in the huts around it, but no one ever had their own personal home.”
He’s jealous, that’s all I can say to it. Packs like Xander’s worked hard, and they made sure they could survive without other packs, but Gideon? He’s not, and the longer it goes on, the less power he has. I know that packs like Xander’s won’t make deals with packs like this.
There’s nothing this pack can give that they can’t get themselves from their own land. Omegas, sure, some packs are prominently male, so trading omegas can help, but other than that, he’s got no power.
“I’m going to restore the world to how it should have been. People will thank me for it.”
He honestly believes that.
“You sound jealous, just so you’re aware.”
“Maybe I am Serafine, but do you know something else? I’m not dumb, I can see where the world ends up if more packs switch to what Xander and others are doing. They are destroying everything we are.”
I mock laugh. “And you’re not? Why did you kill his first mate?” I ask.
His lips twitch, and I already feel like I won’t like the answer.
“She was the daughter of a powerful Alpha, killing her was blissful, he came here for revenge within hours, and died as well. Then i took over his pack, destroyed what was there and brought everyone here.”
“You’re building an army,” I whisper. Realising that’s what he’s been doing. Every pack he destroys, he brings the people back here. He’s creating an
army.
“Others may think we’re weak because we lack their resources, but I have numbers.”
Numbers mean nothing when people want to escape him. If there is a war and the people here are smart enough to think about it, they will step back and watch Gideon get destroyed to be free from him.
“And me and Eryx, what’s our place in this?
“You already know yours. To be used, to be dumped at his pack, so he reacts without thinking and dies. As for Eryx, well… He will grow up here, and he

will learn what I want him to. Then, he will use his guardian friends to destroy everything and everyone.”
My eyes roll. “Guardians aren’t here. For him to do that, he needs to have been near the guardian to create the bond. Where are you going to find guardians, considering they only come out when they are ready and stay hidden any other time?”
He can’t, the guardians are smart, if they sense a trap they won’t come here. So he’s left with Eryx.
“What is your plan if the guardians stay hidden?”
His smile widens. “Now, if I tell you that Eryx is capable of, that will tell you what you’re capable of. I don’t want you to have that power, Serafine.” He stands and smirks.
“Enjoy your time here, I’m sure there are more Gammas and betas waiting for their turn. Don’t worry. I will return you to Xander, but only your son. He’s mine.”
He goes through the door, and my body shakes. I need to figure this out. I don’t have my wolf. I don’t have a journal to use to learn things. I don’t have anything. But he keeps talking like there’s more there than just my wolf.
What though?
