Her face was grim, and everyone held their
breath.
Everyone knew Sarah’s mother was
overbearing, and she still held the power in
the Miller family.
“Mom, no matter what you say, I won’t listen;
I won’t continue to live with Tom.”
“These three years, he’s ruined everything!”
Sarah rarely clashed with her mother, but now
she stood in front of Mark, refusing to yield
an inch.
Sarah’s mother sighed.
く
“Don’t worry, your contract with Tom has
been cancelled. Tom lost our bet, and he
won’t appear in front of you again.”
“Now that he’s gone, you have to marry the
young master of the Zhou family.”
“Daughter, without those three years with
Tom, your future would have been truly
ruined.”
Chapter 2
“What bet? What annulment? Mom, what do
you mean?”
Sarah shot up, letting go of Mark’s hand.
She looked at me, as if she hadn’t
understood her mother’s words.
“Tom, what did you bet with my mom?”
I looked away, not answering her.
Sarah’s mother blocked Sarah’s view, looking
<
at her with grief and distress.
“I’ve already arranged your marriage; you’re
marrying the young master of the Thompson
family. If Tom hadn’t interfered, you would have married him already.”
“But it’s not too late. I’ve already spoken to
the Thompsons. I won’t tolerate your
nonsense anymore!”
Sarah’s lips trembled, as if stunned by the
news.
“Mom! You’re making me marry that
Thompson good–for–nothing? I’m your daughter, not a commodity!”
She turned to me, her voice trembling.
“Tom, say something…”
