Chapter 3
<
“Linda, did you do this?!”
Exhausted, I tried to push away the phone he
shoved in my face.
David gripped my hand, forcing me to look at
the trending topic on the screen.
【Rising Star Amelia Spotted with CEO David
at Hotel】
The photos showed them together, looking
intimate. The comments were brutal.
【Isn’t David married to Linda? Amelia
seemed so innocent, but she’s a
homewrecker.]
【I knew Amelia’s career was taking off too
feet She has a sugar daddyll
く
fast. She has a sugar daddy!】
【Shameless! I’m going to give her new movie
a bad review!】
I tried to scroll through the comments, but
Amelia rushed out of the car, crying.
“Linda, David and I are truly in love! Why are
you trying to ruin me like this?”
“Even if you don’t care about my career, you
should think about David. How could you
expose us like this? Have you thought about
what this will do to him?”
David pulled Amelia into his arms, wiping
away her tears.
“Amelia, I promised I’d protect you. Don’t
worry.”
“It’s cold out here. Go back to the car. I’ll talk
to her.”
As Amelia got back in the car, David turned to
me, his face cold.
“Linda, you have to make a statement
clearing this up. Tell everyone we were never
married.”
“If necessary, tell them you were the one
interfering with my relationship with Amelia.”
His fingers, holding the phone, trembled with
anger.
I looked at those hands, the same hands that
once held mine so protectively, but I couldn’t
く
- me.
Finally, I spoke, my voice hoarse.
“We don’t need to do that, David.”
“Let’s get a divorce. You can tell everyone you were single all along. Isn’t that easier?”
David’s mouth opened slightly, his eyes fixed
on mine. But he shook his head.
“No.”
Why not?
Wasn’t this what he wanted?
Before I could ask, Amelia fluttered back into
David’s arms.
L
“David, she finally agreed to leave you!”
“This is wonderful! We don’t have to hide
anymore!”
She wrapped her arms around his neck,
practically hanging on him.
David’s furrowed brow relaxed. He twirled a
strand of Amelia’s hair and nodded.
“Alright then. Go draw up a divorce
agreement. I’ll sign it when I get back.”
I hired the best lawyer and got the divorce
agreement as quickly as possible.
David arrived home soon after.
He was rarely on time, but he was here for
Г
“Don’t tell Grandpa about this. I owe him.”
David skimmed the agreement and signed it
without hesitation.
I watched him sign his name and nodded.
“Grandpa will never know.”
That night, David issued a statement denying
the marriage rumors and announced his
upcoming engagement to Amelia. The news
dominated the headlines.
To compensate Amelia for the online hate,
David hired a drone team to light up the night
sky with their names.
Public opinion shifted instantly. I, the woman
<
who had always been by David’s side, became
the shameless homewrecker trying to
interfere with their love.
My phone buzzed with hateful messages.
But it didn’t matter anymore.
I checked the flight schedule, packed my meager belongings, set a timer to send the
intimate photos Amelia had sent me to
provoke me, and embarked on my journey.
Before boarding the plane, I saw notifications
from David flashing on my screen.
I ignored them, stowed my luggage, and
turned off my phone.
