5:
I woke up in a private hospital.
With my memory gone, Michael filled me in.
I touched my flat stomach and activated the
spirit mirror, seeing David at a bar,
celebrating Amelia’s birthday.
He suddenly froze, his glass shattering on the
floor.
A wave of unease washed over him.
Something felt wrong, like he was losing
something precious.
This feeling had lingered since he left home.
<
Now, it intensified.
“I’ll go home after this,” he murmured. “I’ll
apologize to Sarah. She’ll forgive me.”
He pulled out a velvet box he’d been carrying.
Amelia, mistaking it for a gift, beamed.
“David, is this for me? I love it!”
He seemed not to hear her. “Does Sarah like
rubies? Or is it too flashy?”
Amelia’s smile faltered. “You’re giving this to
Sarah?”
He nodded, still lost in thought. He didn’t
notice her disappointment, his gaze fixed on
the necklace.
<
Suddenly, he felt an overwhelming urge to go
home.
“You guys have fun. I’m leaving,” he said,
grabbing his jacket.
Amelia grabbed his arm, her eyes pleading.
“David, it’s my birthday. You’re leaving me like
this?”
“Are you going back to Sarah? Do you… do
you love her now?”
He stopped, looking at her, his eyes avoiding
hers. “Don’t be silly. Everything I do is for
you…”
“I’m just worried about her. Besides, she’s
still useful. Your eyes haven’t fully healed.
yet.”
<
Even Amelia could see through the flimsy
excuse. “The five days are up. My eyes are
fine now.”
David froze. He turned to her, shock and
disbelief warring on his face. “It’s already
been five days?”
Just then, the door burst open. His assistant
rushed in.
“Mr. Walker, it’s Mrs. Walker! She’s left a
divorce agreement and disappeared!”
