At the car, Charles released her and handed back the umbrella since Flint had arrived with another.
Jessica lowered her eyes. “Well… be careful on your way home.”
“Sure, you be safe too, Charles replied, his gaze deep and penetrating.
“I’ll head back now,” Jessica said, feeling that his gaze felt different from before.
“See you tomorrow, Charles added.
“See you tomorrow.” Jessica quickly replied, turning on her heel and hurrying back, almost as if fleeing. Being around him brought immense pressure.
She could still feel Charles‘ eyes on her as she walked away.
Finally, back inside the community and out of his sight, her nerves cased.
Why was she so nervous around him?
A shadow suddenly loomed over her. Startled, she looked up to see Hugh glaring at her, his eyes cold.
“What are you doing here?” Jessica asked, clearly surprised.
Pain shot through her shoulder as Hugh grabbed her, pushing her against the wall. “Jessica, you’re shameless! How dare you seduce my uncle!”
He had acted on impulse tonight by coming here, and only to see her embracing Charles.
Jessica, in pain, swatted his hand away. “What are you talking about?”
“I saw you! Stop lying!‘ Hugh’s face was contorted with rage..
He grabbed her again, furious. “Five years ago, you betrayed me. Now you’re going after my uncle. What are you planning?”
Jessica was fed up with his accusations. She struggled. “Let go of me! What I do is none of your business!”

“Take care of your own affairs before bothering with mine. Why don’t you ask Rhea whose baby she’s carrying?” Jessica snapped.
Hugh’s expression darkened. He glared icily at her. “Of course it’s my baby! Are you trying to cause trouble between Rhea and me?”

Hugh’s eyes narrowed. “And what about your child? Who’s the father?” Ever since he found out she had a child, he couldn’t stop thinking about her betrayal.
Jessica had no desire to continue the conversation. The elevator arrived, and she kicked Hugh, forcing him to release her. She dashed inside.
As the doors closed, she sternly warned, “Hugh, don’t ever bother me again!”
Hugh attempted to grab her but it was too late. The doors shut, and he punched the wall in frustration.
Outside, the heavy rain continued to pour. Rhea stood by the full–length window, anxiously watching the storm. Hugh hadn’t returned, and she was worried.
With Jessica back in the picture, she constantly feared losing him.
Her phone chimed with a new message. Hoping it was Hugh, she quickly checked.
It wasn’t from him. She opened it to find several photos showing Charles and Jessica sharing an umbrella in the rain.
Her heart sank. Had that wretched woman actually seduced Charles?
Since Jessica caught her and Jay at the hospital, she had been uneasy, secretly having someone follow Jessica.
She never imagined they’d catch her with Charles!
Seeing the later photos made her emotions flare with anger. She nearly hurled her phone at the
wall.
The photos showed Hugh with Jessica!
He had been with Jessica the whole time!
Seething, she glared at the pictures. Enough was enough! Jessica needed a severe lesson.
The next day, the storm had passed, leaving the air fresh and clean.
Jessica’s foot was almost healed, and she was ready to return to work.
After dropping Arthur off at school, she headed to the office.
Having taken a few days off, she needed to speed up the progress on her projects.
After reporting in, she went to the construction site; completing a satisfactory design was no simple task.

Jake Baker, the project manager for Montara Plaza, was already acquainted with her and personally escorted her to the site.
Jessica spent nearly the entire morning at the site, and when she left. Jake saw her off.
“Mr. Baker, thank you for your help today,” Jessica said gratefully.

“It’s no trouble, Ms. Scott. No need to be so formal. You got injured last time here, so I’m partly responsible.”
Jake still felt uneasy about nearly being fired by Charles, who had reacted so strongly. It showed how much Charles valued Jessica.
Thinking of this, Jake decided to be particularly attentive. “Is your foot all healed?”
Jessica smiled. “Yes, it wasn’t a serious injury.”
