“Sit.”
Entering the office, Jason acted as if he were
greeting a guest.
I looked at the sofa; there were several cute
plush toys piled on it.
The cabinet that once held books now held a
snack rack.
The door to the private rest room was ajar.
Through the crack, I could see women’s
clothing casually strewn on the bed.
Jason looked at me, his eyes ambiguous.
Feeling uncomfortable, I looked away.
“Where’s the agreement?”
Jason handed me the divorce agreement on
his desk.
While I looked at it, his eyes stayed on me.
“We’ve been together for so many years; I
won’t shortchange you. You can choose any
car or house you want. If you have other
requests, you can mention them.”
Was this compensation?
Only that thought crossed my mind.
But it didn’t affect my reading speed.
In the agreement, Jason gave me more than I
could spend in several lifetimes.
He was always generous and wouldn’t be
stingy about these things.
“No need. Just this, and the villa I’m currently
living in.”
I said.
I neatly signed it and handed it to Jason.
Jason seemed to have something to say to
- me.
Because I saw his mouth open, then close
because of my actions.
He looked at my handing him the paper.
He seemed to be a little bit incredulous that
the whole process took less than five
minutes.
I stood up.
“The divorce cooling–off period is one month.
After a month, I’ll contact you.”
After saying that, I turned to leave.
“Sarah.”
“Anything else?”
“Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Jason frowned slightly.
There was a hint of confusion in his eyes, and
his tone was disbelieving.
I looked at him questioningly, seeing his
sincerity.
After thinking for a moment, I asked seriously,
“At this point, you wouldn’t want me to wish
you and Lily a happy marriage and a big
family, would you?”
Although I let go,
I wasn’t that generous.
The man in front of me was speechless.
Jason’s gaze seemed like a deep pool, his
emotions unclear.
As I reached for the doorknob, his voice came
from behind again.
“Sarah, ultimately, I’m sorry. I’ll continue to be
responsible for your mother’s medical
expenses.”
