Chapter 12
“Stop, Winona!” Irritated by her attitude, Christine grabbed Winona.
“Don’t touch me!” Winona turned to glare at her, saying in an icy tone. Christine was stunned.
Winona had never done that to her before. She was usually super sweet to Christine, never once blowing up at her. It kinda scared Christine.
Eliza saw what was going on, so she stepped in with a gentle voice, “Don’t be mad at Christine, Ms. Moore. She hasn’t done anything wrong to you.” She was saying that it was Winona’s fault.
Winona shot her a frosty look and said, “Right. She hasn’t. So you have, right, Ms. Scott?”
Eliza didn’t expect this, so she was stunned for a moment. Then she pretended to be confused and asked, “What do you mean, Ms. Moore?”
Winona didn’t want to waste time with them, so she said directly, “Don’t worry, Ms. Scott. Not everyone is interested in the food on someone else’s plate. As for what’s come out of my mouth, do as you please with it.”
“What is she talking about, Eliza?” Christine was a little confused. But Eliza’s face fell, and it was clear she got the sarcastic meaning in Winona’s words.
Let go of me, Christine,” said Winona coldly.
“No. I won’t let you go unless you finish the divorce procedure with Xavier now. Are you deliberately stalling?” Christine wouldn’t give up.
Winona, who wasn’t going to argue with them, suddenly said when she saw the man coming over, “You’re way overthinking this. I asked for a divorce and I’m ready to finish the procedure any time. Why don’t you ask him when he has time for this? Then you won’t have to come to see me again, right?”
Christine scoffed, “Since when can you ask for a divorce? Xavier’s the one calling the shots!”
“Looks like I’ve been too nice to you.” That voice caught Christine and Eliza off guard. They spun around and there was Xavier, just standing there and watching everything.
“Why are you here, Xavier? Are you here to divorce her?” Christine asked, but Eliza frowned. She knew that he was not there for the divorce, so she said gently, “Xavier…”
Xavier walked to them. He took a glance at Winona, who stood there with an indifferent look, and then at Eliza and Christine. “Have you recovered?” he asked Eliza.
Somehow, Eliza felt that he was blaming her instead of caring about her. This thought frightened her, but she kept looking at him with a smile, saying, “Don’t worry. I’m fine.”
Winona looked at the three of them with a frown. She hated triangles because they looked sharp. However, the three people in front of her formed one. “I’ll see you at the courthouse at nine o’clock tomorrow,” she said and left.
Xavier stared at Christine and Eliza as if he didn’t hear Winona. Christine, clueless, said, “You must show up on time, Xavier!”
But Xavier just glanced at Eliza and said, “Shawn will drive you home.”
Knowing that he was driving her away, Eliza bit her lip and nodded reluctantly.
It wasn’t until now that Christine felt frightened. Just as she was about to escape, she was stopped by Xavier. “W–What is it, Xavier?” she asked.
“What did you tell her?” Xavier asked in a deep voice.
“Tell who? Christine played dumb.
“Do you want to be sent abroad?” Xavier threatened her.
Christine shrank her neck in fear and said with gritted teeth, “What can I tell her? I told her to divorce you as soon as possible. You know I never like her!
Xavier stared at her for a long time and said, “Are you sure?”
Christine nodded repeatedly. “I swear I didn’t tell her anything else.”
After looking at Christine for a while, Xavier let her go and left. Having sweat all over her back, Christine patted herself on her chest and muttered. “I can’t let Xavier know what I did on his birthday
