Chapter 13
The next day. Winona put all the clothes in the wardrobe into boxes, taped them, and then moved them out. Soon, the delivery guy came to take them away.
She brought all these clothes back from the villa. Xavier bought them for Winona. She was not picky with the clothes she wore and would wear any clothes that Xavier felt beautiful.
But when Winona saw Eliza, she understood everything. She didn’t want to keep or toss out these clothes that copied someone else’s style. She just wanted to give them back to Xavier.
After that, she left the apartment and went to the courthouse.
Standing at the gate, Winona kept checking the time. It was past nine o’clock, but Xavier didn’t show up. When it was nearly ten o’clock, Winona called Xavier.
It took a long time to get through. But instead of Xavier’s voice, Winona heard Gary’s angry voice. “Divorce is not allowed in our family. Don’t even think about it!”
Winona was shocked. She thought everything had been sorted out after she made herself clear that night. Winona couldn’t help but speak a little irritably, “Can’t you finish the procedures first before telling them?”
Xavier sneered, “Do you think we can get divorced without the marriage certificate? Grandpa’s got it.”
Winona was speechless. Then something occurred to her. “But you didn’t even bother with the marriage licenses before we got the marriage certificate. It should be easy for you to skip some procedures. I’ll wait here until you come.”
With that, Winona hung up, walked into the courthouse, and took a seat at a corner.
Xavier glared at his phone, clenching it. With a smug smile, he spun around to face his grandpa. “You heard her, Grandpa. She’s the one wanting the divorce,” he said, walking off.
Gary was so angry, but all he could do was shoot a furious look at his son, James. “Look at what your kid’s done!”
James was speechless, wondering how this was his fault. With no other option, he turned to his wife, Sandra Patterson. “That’s your good boy!”
Sandra didn’t respond, thinking no way Xavier got this stunt from her side. “Are we really gonna let them get divorced?” she asked.
Diane’s eyes gleamed with a scheming light. “No way. That girl’s a catch for our family. They’re not splitting up on my watch!”
Meanwhile, Winona was sitting in the hall, watching the newlyweds and those signing their divorce papers. She was lost in thought, remembering how a year ago, she was the only one glowing with happiness while Xavier always seemed so detached. He wasn’t overly happy back then, so she figured he probably wasn’t all that heart–broken now.
It was getting late. Winona checked the time and frowned. What she did not know was that a black Maybach had been parked outside the gate for a long while. Xavier was sitting inside the car, waiting.
But Xavier didn’t seem to have the intention to get out of the car. Shawn glanced at his watch and said, “Mr. Patterson, people at the courthouse are about to get off work.” He had a feeling Xavier was stalling on purpose because he didn’t really want the divorce.
Feeling Xavier’s icy stare at the back of his head, Shawn shivered. Sitting up straight, he cleared his throat and mumbled, “Don’t mind me.”
But the next second, Xavier opened the door.
Winona was just about to run out of patience, thinking Xavier had fooled her, when she spotted him. She jumped up and hurried over. “Come on, we’ve still got time. Let’s go.”
Xavier caught her wrist and gave her a hard look. No hesitation in her eyes, just eagerness. “Why are you rushing this? You’ve been lying about loving me?” he questioned.
Winona didn’t expeer Ravier to say these. If there was nothing else, this would be the last time they met. She kept her cool. “Let’s just leave the past behind us
With a slice of sarcasm, Xavier said, “So, what went down just half a month ago, that’s ‘the past‘ now?”
Hearing this, Winona remembered the overseas call she made half a month ago, and her face turned pale.
