Chapter 15
“Grandma Diane, have you been waiting long?” Winona asked. Diane gave her a warm smile. “Nope, I just got here. Come, sit down. I got your favorite, cantaloupe cake.”
Winona was kinda taken aback. She liked cantaloupes and cantaloupe cakes very much, but because Xavier didn’t like the smell, she rarely ate them. But every time she went back to the Patterson residence, Diane would prepare some for her.
Smiling, Winona sat and quietly ate the whole slice. Eyes twinkling, she chirped, “Mmm, so yummy.”
Diane was also happy after seeing Winona finish the whole cake, and then she started to talk about the real business. “Winona, there are only the two of us now. Tell me the truth. Why do you insist on divorcing Xavier?” Diane asked.
Winona froze. She glanced at Diane’s worried face and felt kinda blue. All her life, she never felt being valued. Her parents always preferred a boy, so she made every effort to stand out. Finally, she went to college and majored in broadcasting, the field she was passionate about. She did a part- time job while studying and finally obtained her graduation certificate. She worked hard and joined the TV station. Although she was just a radio host of the evening program, she was very satisfied, because she liked the job.
“Grandma Diane, I’m from an ordinary family, and Xavier is the CEO of Patterson Group. There is a huge gap between us. We are not suitable for each other.” Winona made up an excuse.
Hearing Winona belittle herself, Diane was a
little angry. “That’s just an excuse!”

Winona pursed her lips and didn’t say anything else. Diane let out a sigh. “Look, I might be old, but I’m not stupid. Tell me the real reason.”
Winona knew that Diane wouldn’t give up until she got what she wanted. Thinking for a while, Winona said, “Grandma Diane, do you know Eliza?”
“Humph, that woman…” Diane frowned and said, “Winona, you already

Could you talk to Grandpa Gary, asking him to give me the marriage certificate?”
Back in the Patterson residence, Xavier came in, took off his coat, and sat down, asking, “What’s wrong?”
Diane glared at him coldly. “I met Winona today.”
Xavier’s hand on the cup froze mid–air as he heard Diane’s words. He looked at her, one eyebrow cocked, waiting.
Diane seemed to be waiting for Xavier to ask, but for five minutes, neither of them spoke.
In the end, Diane couldn’t bear it anymore. She stood up from the sofa and pointed at Xavier with the crutch in her hand angrily, “I called you back to say this–if Winona’s mind is the same a month from now, she’s getting the marriage certificate from us. Got that?” With that, she spun around and walked out, her steps brisk and decisive.
Xavier stared at the cup in his hand in silence, his face serious and shadowy. He set the cup down and turned to the man next to him.
Gary, feeling Xavier’s stare, snapped, “Why are you looking at me? Your grandma has the final say in our family. If you really divorce Winona, you will regret it one day!” After giving Xavier a glare, Gary stormed out too.
Xavier was left alone. After a while, he sneered.
