Chapter 7
Xavier didn’t seem to be in a good mood. Seeing that she kept struggling, the veins on his forehead and arms bulged and he said in a cold tone, trying to hold back his anger, “What about them?”
Winona knew what he meant. The whole Patterson family treated her sincerely except for him and Christine, and she always treated them the
same way.
“I’ll come here and apologize to them in person next time. Now please let me go,” she said.
Xavier was more pissed. He grabbed her more tightly and said in a forceful tone, “Come back now!”
With tears in her eyes, Winona remained stubborn. “No!”

Xavier suddenly approached her, lifted her chin with his fingers, and stared at her with stormy eyes. “I said come back now. Can’t you
Winona was panting. Throughout the whole last year, he’d been a block of ice while she practically revolved around him, trying to warm up his heart. It was the first time he had been so excited.
“I said no. Didn’t you hear me?” she said.

having a passionate kiss, Christine screamed behind them.
She grabbed her phone and looked at them in shock.
What are you doing?”
At that, Winona managed to shove Xavier off her. Her cheeks were burning up. She harshly wiped her mouth and glared at him. Then she raised her arm and slapped him, trembling.
Xavier just licked his lips, looking like he was actually enjoying this. He eyed her puffy lips, ready to say something, when Christine came stomping over, shooting daggers with her eyes at Winona. “How dare you hit Xavier, Winona? You’ve divorced him. Stop seducing him!” Christine snapped.
“Christine!” Xavier shouted with a stern face. “Don’t go too far.”
Christine looked like she might burst into tears. She faced Xavier with a quivering voice, “Eliza had a car accident.” Then she glared at Winona again.
After checking his phone, Xavier frowned and strode away. A few seconds later, he stopped and took a glance at Winona who had her back to him. He couldn’t see her face, but he saw her trembling, so he felt guiltier.
“It’s late. I’ll ask the driver to send you home.” After saying that, he strode away without hesitation.
Before Christine caught up with him, she stopped by Winona and looked at her with disgust on her face. “See? Eliza is the one who means the most to Xavier. You’re nothing compared to her. He’s gonna ditch you. Stay away from him!” Christine said.
After a long pause, Winona looked up at the moon in the sky, withdrew her gaze, and left.
In the car, Christine eyed Xavier at the wheel as they headed to the hospital. He seemed pretty chill, not all wound up like she’d figured he’d be. She bit her lip thinking about that kiss.
“Why did you kiss Winona, Xavier?” she asked.
Xavier kept his eyes on the road, smoothly passing a car, and said flatly, “What’s wrong with me kissing my wife?”
“But you’re divorced.” Christine Sounded surprised.
Xavier parked the car outside the hospital and glanced at her. “I think you’ve got some misunderstanding about a divorce.”
It took a while for Christine to understand what he meant. Xavier and Winona had just agreed to divorce and signed the papers, but they hadn’t made it official at the courthouse yet. So, technically, they were still married.
“Then what about Eliza? Don’t you love her anymore? Didn’t you just leave Winona alone because you were worried about Eliza?”
Xavier didn’t want to hear her nag, so he took out his phone and showed something to her. “See?”
Christine stared at his phone, on which was a text from Eliza. [Help, Xavier!]
Christine looked away in disbelief. While she was still wondering, Xavier had already turned around and left.

She thought, ‘So Xavier left Winona alone because he thought Eliza’s life might be in danger? That’s why he chose Eliza over Winona at that
moment?‘
“How could he?” she murmured.
