Chase approached cautiously, “Are… you
doing well?”
“Pretty good.”
He looked around the guesthouse, “It’s a nice
environment; the business is doing well.”
“Thank you.”
A guest is a guest; I couldn’t be rude, so I
decided to make him some tea.
Just as I stood up, Ethan rushed out of the
room.
“Didn’t I tell you not to move around? The
doctor said to be extra careful for three
months; if you need anything, call me!”
I laughed helplessly, “I’m not that fragile.”
“You are! If you tire yourself out for irrelevant
people, and harm the baby, what am I
supposed to do?”
As soon as he finished, Chase said in
disbelief, “You’re pregnant?”
He stared at my belly, his face full of shock.
Ethan narrowed his eyes, standing in front of
me, blocking Chase’s view.
“Staring at my wife’s belly, is that polite?
Shouldn’t you go see your wife?”
Before Chase could speak, he said, “Oh, you
don’t have a wife.”
I tugged at Ethan’s sleeve, signaling him to
calm down.
He held my hand, our fingers intertwined.
“Sorry, we’re fully booked. If you need
accommodation, go somewhere else.”
Chase suddenly said, “You gave up a
promising career to stay in this small town;
are you willing to do that?”
Ethan chuckled lightly, “A career is important,
but I can’t bear to leave her.”
I then realized the sacrifices Ethan made to
stay.
At night, I tossed and turned, sighing
frequently.
“Ethan, you’re such a lovesick fool.”
“What should I do?” He smiled.
“What else? You picked him yourself, so you’ll
spoil him.”
