Everyone stared in stunned silence as he bolted out the estate.
And then all eyes turned to Lola.
The brand–new Princess Bride… abandoned on her wedding night.[]
Not once in American royal history had this ever happened.]]
Lola had spent years as a top–tier socialite, used to every kind of male attention.
But now, facing a room full of pitiful stares and whispered gossip, even she couldn’t stop her body from trembling.]
She threw the apple to the floor.
And with one furious motion, tore off her red veil.]
“Scarlett. F***ing. Monroe.“]
She hissed the name like venom on her tongue.]
Lifting her gown, she stormed out of the room.
She wouldn’t let that woman ruin her wedding.
That crown is mine. It always was.
The crowd blinked, then rushed after her.
No one wanted to miss the drama.]]
Meanwhile, I was in the courtyard, overseeing the final preparations.[]
“Ma’am, should we take all of these?”
The soldier was massive, but his voice turned soft when addressing me.
I sat on the stone bench, finally feeling a bit lighter.
“Take everything. I don’t want to leave behind even a memory.“[]
Scarlett gave a solemn nod, his eyes filled with sympathy.
“You didn’t deserve this, ma’am.”
! just smiled.
His fists clenched.
“You should’ve told us what you were going through.“]
“If the General knew, he’d have stormed back here the second he heard.”
He’d be furious you were treated like this.“[]
Hearing him made my heart ache–just a little less.
Spring followed up with a sniffle.[]
“She’s right. I begged her to let me tell the General, but she’s too damn stubborn.”
“If he knew even half of it, he’d be here by now raising hell.”
Her voice cracked with emotion.]
I smiled again, but said nothing.
Of course I knew my father cared.]
But he’d spent years guarding the country’s borders.]
I couldn’t burden him with my heartbreak.]

Was that he and my brother had already heard the rumors from New York.]
And they were on their way home. Fast.[]
“Everything’s packed, Miss.“[]
A guard walked up and gave the final word.[]
Scarlett nodded and looked at me.[]
“Ready to go?”
“Yes.”
With my agreement, he waved, and a small black SUV pulled up, door open.[]
“Miss Monroe, please.“]
I stood up, ready to step inside.
“Stop!”
A furious voice cut through the air.
Richard burst into the courtyard, panting and disheveled.[]
“Scarlett–you can’t leave.“[]
I frowned and opened my mouth, but Scarlett stepped forward first, his tone cold.]
“Prince Richard, I suggest you step aside.“]
Richard straightened, eyes blazing.
“Who the hell are you? This doesn’t concern you!”
Scarlett didn’t even blink.
“I serve General Monroe. I’m here on his orders to bring Miss Monroe home.“[]
“Step aside, Your Highness.“[]
The moment he heard General Monroe, Richard’s confidence wavered.[]
But he still wouldn’t budge.
He turned to me with that familiar pleading look.[]
“Scarlett… today’s our wedding day. Please
make a scene.‘
scene.“D
There it was again.
Ever since Lola showed up, every disagreement was “me making a scene.“]
Didn’t want to divorce him? I was making a scene.[]
Avoided him at the estate? I was making a scene.]]
Now I wanted to leave? Still me, making a scene.
To him, anything that didn’t go his way–was my fault.]
I let out a bitter laugh, meeting his gaze head–on.]
“And what if I said I was leaving anyway?“]
